Hi all,
Apologies in advance if this isn’t the right spot for this – please feel free to move it if needed.
I’ve been looking into the recreation of Helltrack at TexPlex Park in Midlothian, Texas, which was built in 2018 as a tribute to the iconic track from the 1986 film *Rad*. I think it’s incredible that someone went to the effort of remaking such a legendary BMX course, but I haven’t been able to find much detailed information about what happened after it was completed.
Does anyone know:
- Did the track remain open to the public for long?
- Was it used regularly, and how successful or active was the scene around it?
- Is it still standing today or was it dismantled?
I’m also curious about the logistics:
- How did they manage to recreate Helltrack so accurately just from the movie? A lot of the shots in *Rad* didn’t really give a complete view of the whole layout.
- Were original blueprints or behind-the-scenes materials used, or did they reconstruct it based mostly on what was visible on-screen?
- And out of curiosity, how much would a remake like that even cost? Seems like it’d be a massive project in terms of both labour and expense.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can share more info. It’s a fascinating piece of BMX and movie history, and I’d love to know what’s become of it.
Cheers!
