Hi everyone… I’ve been a member of the Ram forum for years. Just thought I would move over here as well (thanks for the invite Shaggy!). I’ve been awaiting a TRX since about the day it was announced. Now that I’ve saved up enough money… there are none to be found for what I budgeted. Blah!

I’ll drive my 2001 Grand Cherokee for a bit longer I suppose. Did have a 2017 Ram Hemi Sport (LOVED it!), but wife wanted to trade for a small and sporty car for her to commute with. Of course she wins every time and that’s the way it should be. She got her spiffy little Audi Quattro and she’s a happy camper.

Has anyone ordered the (relatively) stripped down TRX base model?

Welcome! Finding one of these trucks is a challenge right now. Especially for close to MSRP. Most of them seem to be pretty much loaded too. I have not seen a lower trim yet.

I’ve seen a couple of “gray market” order and flip dealerships in my area advertising them for $50,000 above sticker with under 10 miles. The whole thing is sketchy. But I remember this same stuff happening with the Miata and the FJ Cruiser. I got my FJ in 2008 when a guy backed out in his $50,000 preorder and I paid $29,400 for the same trail teams that he walked on (rightfully so). Gas hit $5 a gallon and it had sat for almost A year at that point. I ended up selling it for more than I paid two years later.

Hopefully the TRX market normalizes and I’ll jump. I’m not in a huge hurry…. But sure would love to hop into one each day!

If the rumors are true this might be the last year for the TRX powerplant. If that's the case the value of these things is going to sky rocket! I hope they are just rumors though

Welcome. There is a lot talk about stopping all orders. Some dealers say they already can’t place any more orders and some say they still can. If you can get in an order that is your best bet, but you could wait up to 6 months to get it.

The fact that people are still trading in their TRX for more than they paid for it doesn’t help keep prices of new ones on lots at MSRP.

If the rumors turn out to be true the cost is only going to increase.

I’ve been through the ordering nightmare already and really hope it ends soon… I ordered a Bronco…. No show. I ordered a 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro in the crazy electric lime green because it was actually somewhat affordable and the dealer said “no markup and no problem.” Now 7 months later I’m getting the, “So you want to roll that 2022 order into a 2023 Taco in another color?” Blah. So back to the TRX I’ve hovered as there was hope that the prices would level out some.

I’ve heard the rumors that Stellantis is dropping all V8’s entirely. I’ll be shocked if it happens without a year or two advance notice, but anything Mopar has always been a fly by the seat of their pants operation regardless of who is calling the shots. I see Stellantis as being much more cautious with the brand and focusing on massive volume rather than giving a crap about the niche loyalty buyers. That was made clear when they dumped the SRT program.

So I’m hoping we are all wrong. I think a real point of pride in America and our auto industry (and of course the fine folks in Windsor, Ontario too) is the great and amazing and really incredible things that Mopar has turned out over the last 75 years. I couldn’t be more proud of the greatness they have produced with sometimes little more than a big engine and a frame to bolt it to. I’m really proud of the Ram truck and the culmination of that spirit of can-do-it ness that resulted in the TRX, which may be the greatest production truck ever built. I can’t think of one I’d rather have and I’ve wanted and loved them ALL!

good luck with your hunt for a truck. In Canada I got the TRX run around and ended up with a really nice power wagon with plans to own a TRX in the future so I think there’s a lot of players in the TRX market making it way more crazy a market than it should be. lots of used ford raptors on the ram lots these days too lol

The Power Wagon is sweet. I’d actually prefer that setup with a shorter bed. I’m not a super big fan of the extra long wheelbase or the supercharger. I am a big fan of front and rear lockers and a winch. I don’t understand why they have never offered a baby TRX with the 6.4 standard aspirating engine and the console shift (they almost did it with the 2022 G/T, but again it’s only partway). I guess we can’t have everything we want. Haha.

It bugs me that guys have all of a sudden t decided their Raptor is worth huge money because the TRX was a hit. The Raptors have gotten a lot of folks in financial trouble that didn’t account for insurance and fuel costs (and inability to park in their garage). I’ve seen too many people speculating in cars right now and it won’t end well. It reminds me of my friends who emptied their college funds in the late 80’s for baseball cards. Eeeeek! Luckily I didn’t spend anything more on cars or cards than I had made and already safely stashed in my savings account for a rainy day.

The base models are a very quick turnaround. I’ve seen some people get theirs in like 6 weeks. Great deals running too if you’re willing to travel. Granger motors is doing 9k off, and Koons is doing 10k. Koons will order with no deposit too.

Bottom line, you want this truck and you should order one ASAP. 😀

Are those the deals that require a Ram trade-in? I’d totally do it if I hadn’t traded my Ram in for my wife’s Audi. I’ll have to dig a bit deeper into them. I’ve got a few SUV’s I should just sell right now while things are going for more. I’m hesitant to sell anything until I have an incoming vehicle locked down though. I hate walking! Haha.

biggest thing with dealers like koons and granger is to make sure you are price protected. I've seen where some dealers will make the order but then if base price goes up before you take deliveryhey don't honor the price from when you ordered. 2022's have seen at least 2 price increases.

Not locally except mine. Searching online you can see where dealers have them or are in transit. I‘m guessing the ones that are 10 to 20 grand over msrp are the ones that sit on lots a little bit.

No need to trade. This is the best of the deals, not sure if the rest will price-protect.

Unfortunately they are clear across the country from you. Granger in Iowa is probably the closest of the discount dealers I can think of.

Sold orders do automatically get listed on the dealer sites, so not everything that comes up is actually available at all. My truck went on the dealer site as soon as it got shipped.

that makes sense and I can see that making it look like there are trucks on the lot that are not.

Here is an example of one that is 75 miles away from me and they actually have real pictures of it. Some dealers will actually show how much they are marking it up and others will make you call or give a lot of info to "unlock" price like this dealer

Real pics are a good indicator that it’s actually in stock and available to the public. I’m sure the price on that one is pretty steep considering it’s an Ignition Edition.

While I was waiting for mine, I never stopped shopping around locally to see if I could grab one off the lot for sticker. But it was impossible. Between all the sleazy pricing tactics, the sold orders being listed on their sites as inventory, etc. Closest I got was 5k over and I walked on that.

That’s why I say if you want one, just order it. A base or Level 1 will be built quickly. And I’m sure since we are in year 2 now, a buyer could even get a local dealer to order a bit under sticker. I don’t see why they wouldn’t deal a little on a custom order. It’s basically an easy, guaranteed sale that can be in and out in a few days.

Do smaller dealers have an allocation cap on customer orders or just orders for their own lot? Wonder if that is why some still want to charge over msrp on customer orders where it seems like big dealers like koons can order as many as people are willing to order so they are still making decent money.
