No you can not own a 38 special that’s a bad nasty gun I believe no hand gun can have less than a 4’’ barrel but they seem to change the firearm laws weekly in Canada. I gave up all my hand guns because all the bullshit wasn’t worth it. And if they do ban them outright which they will shortly if rumours are true They just want you to turn them in with no compensation?? Like w.t.f. I just don’t want to take that chance Also another reason is at any time law enforcement can knock on your door go in and check your storage of the fire arms no rights at all. And you read stories all the time about regular folks getting bullshit gun charges simply because they don’t want anyone to own firearms. Don’t like your neighbour Call the cops and say you saw him with a gun his life will be hell if he actually owns guns it’s that bad in Canada now. On average I deal with police 3-4 times a year just field hunting geese and they always say the same thing we got a call about gun shots and even tho they know it’s hunters they must go to the call

You are likely thinking of a "Saturday Night Special". These are often .38 caliber pistols with 2-inch barrels. Smith & Wesson made many .38 Special pistol models. You can see mine in the photos above.

I have a colt 38 detective special and a s&w 38 snub from the 50’s that was the backup gun for a LA Homicide detective who worked the glory days of LA crime. Worked Manson case/Sinatra kidnapping/etc

Here's a photo of an actual "Saturday Night Special". It's not mine. Just a photo I found online.

Smith and Wesson officially called these "Chief's Specials". It's a Model 36 in the small J frame double action .38 Special body with 5 shots and usually a 2-inch barrel. But some 3-inch barrel variants were also made. This one is nickle plated which was highly desired because it didn't leave marks on clothing. The cheaper gun metal version was likely more common. This pistol was specially made for concealment. It was used extensively by police, criminals and others that just needed protection when they went out for a night on the town. Thus the nickname, "Saturday Night Special".

I don’t have any on my phone and the colt is at my place in California. I’ll pull the smith out of the safe later. Was gifted to me by the widow of the homicide detective after his death. Was a good friend

Makes for good backup when the duty/primary firearm goes tango uniform. I usually carry a S&W M19 or 27 (4 inch) and 4 speed loaders with Federal Personal Defense 125 grain JHP. I guess if I can't it done with that, I'm a dead man.

I think it was under $200 if I remember right. What's interesting is that this gun was actually made by Taurus in Brazil, imported to the US by Braztech and then badged as a Rossi. There's a video at the bottom comparing them.

I think it's nickel plated. But the trigger may be stainless from the look of it. The point of Rossi at the time was to be a cheaper alternative. Adjusting for inflation, I believe handgun prices seem to be lower today than they were in the 1980s and 90s. I think the advent of the big box sporting and athletic stores, and all the new US gun manufacturers really changed the market. $200 USD in 1990 is equal to $406 today. And right now, I can buy a pretty decent US-made S&W for that price.

This wasn't on my list until a guy on the shooting forum was selling. Did a bit of research and I loved that it uses the same ammo as my tokarev and really impressed with the build quality and design. i would highly recommend it.

How do you like it? I shoot air guns with my grands in the back yard and have though about one of the autos. It sure seems like it would be a lot of fun.
